Let Children’s Dream Soar

July 12, 2015

In somewhere surrounding you, perhaps there are elf that can become various foods, little monsters that have extraordinary power, or friends come from other planets…… Although we never see these creatures, all of us can depict them in our mind.

Speeding Flying Chicken!

Four-eyed Monster!

Men-devouring Donut Monster!

These strange names, in fact, are the name of the fantastic creatures designed by our talented glass dreamers!

In the morning on July 12, 2015, we invited six awarded talented glass dreamers and their families to come to the K-Space of Kids Museum of Glass, and have a Skype chat with the hot glass studio of the Museum of Glass in Tacoma.

“Mom, this is my painting!” “Dad, look, is it look good?” Entered the K-Space, the children held the hands of their father and mother, began to find their work hurriedly, and were proud to introduce their ideas of the painting.

At half past nine, the Skype chat started on time. The hot glass studio answered doubts about glass production and children’s own work patiently, at the same time, they were busy to create the work of one of the awarded child called “Multi-eye and Two-head Monster”. The most concerned topic of the children is whether their work is successfully produced. Thus, the studio showed the completed glass works to them. When the screen has showed their own glass works, children immediately “show off” to their parents. For those children who had not found their own glass work, their face had no trace of lost and they had more patience to wait. Kids sit on their seat, journeying looked at the top artistry, witnessed the forming moment of their work.

It needs time to plug in the wings on our whimsy and let them to become the fine art. When all the awarded works are completely produced, we will organize the KIDS DESIGN GLASS exhibition on October 2015, share the fairy-tale world that created by the paintings and glass artworks, appreciate the innocence and humor of our talented glass dreamers, and lamented the extraordinary expression of the glass artists.

Let us look forward and clap for our children dreams!

Flowing – Activity on Campus by The Shanghai Museum of Glass

May 26, 2015

Glass is an amazing material that can be soften and becomes liquid at 900 degree Celsius. People discover the special characteristic of glass and turn it from an usual material to a splendid work of art. On the 26th of May, Shanghai Museum of Glass (SHMOG) and Fudan University worked together to hold an activity on campus.

In the DIY workshops, students could paint their favorite characters of caricatures and Baymax on glass bottles as well as make different mosaics collages. Among various workshops, DIY workshop of glass accessories such as rings and pendants was the most popular. Students enjoyed the workshops and they experienced the way of beautifying glasses with creativity. Not only did students experienced the amusement of glass from DIY workshops, they also learnt more about glasses through exhibition. The theme of exhibition was “flowing”  and 6 different collections of artistic glasses from different countries were displayed. The splendid artistic glasses revealed the “flowing” characteristic of glasses as well as the prosperity of glass workroom movement and the idea exchange about glasses since 1960s.

In the conference , Zhang Ling, our CEO, shared the community-based planning of our museum with the students of Fudan University and exchanged books with associate professor Liu. Searching an unique way for the development of SHMOG is the most important question today. So we need to think about how to build a closer relationship with the community, to hold an interesting exhibition for young group and break the traditional impression of Museum. Only solving these kinds of problem can we become more competitive.

The “Flowing ” is one of the activity of the “518 International Museum Day” and it marks the beginning of cooperation between SHMOG and Fudan University. Establishing a closer cooperation relationship between museums and universities is the critical planning of museums and it will be the main concern of SHMOG in the future. Thus, in order to extend the functions of museum and to put museum into people’ leisure time, SHMOG will keep cooperating with Fudan University in the field of career training, strategic development of museum, exhibition planning and education programs.

New Park New Dream, Glassy Heart Happy Heart – 4th Anniversary Ceremony

May 17, 2015

Shanghai Museum of Glass welcomes its 4th Anniversary celebration. It is also a landmark year of the construction and development of G+Park where the Museum locates. G+Park and celebrities from all walk of life toasted together to celebrate. The grand ceremony of 4th anniversary with a theme “New Park New Dream, Glassy Heart Happy Heart” took place in the new wing of Phase II of G+Park.

A museum can nourish a city and a community. In the past four years, we presented 18 marvelous exhibitions to the public, from annual Chinese Antique Glass Special Exhibition to unreserved support to contemporary glass artists, crossing ancient and modern time, linking China and the world. The number of collections owned by the Museum is growing steadily. Every year Chinese antique glasses enter the museum in order, enriching contemporary glass artwork series. At present there are 1182 exhibits in total. The Museum also organized 35 interesting public activities corresponding to the season, such as exhibition-related seminars, creative workshops, glassy laboratory, listen to a glass concert, a night at the museum, movie night at the museum, romantic Christmas dinner and etc., that enriched the museum content, turning the museum into a saloon for the urban residents. Meanwhile, artists and designers from 23 countries including the US, UK, Italy, Germany, Netherlands, Turkey, Australia, Mexico, Kenya, Japan, South Korea participated in all kinds of exhibition projects and public activities, bringing international ideas and perspective. Dedicated creative exhibitions, colorful fun cultural activities and innovative museum management concept attracted about 380 000 visitors to share the infinite possibilities of glass with us. Shanghai Glass Museum, together with National Museum, Museum of the Terra-cotta Warriors and Horses of Emperor Qin are selected as “three museums in China that you cannot miss” by a website operated by CNN. To us, this is a tremendous recognition and honor.

Surrounded by the beautiful artistic environment of Shanghai Museum of Glass, the brand new G+Park came into rudiment shape. G+Park is the first original theme park in the country that attaches to “museum”, the urban eye, using art and culture as media to transmit sense of happiness to urban residents and guiding a new fashion featured with museum lifestyle. “G” stands for “glass”. Through diversified interpretation of this theme, it continues to share the infinite possibilities of glass, to fulfil the beautiful dream. The “+” sign does not only mean adding up in the physical sense, but to have active chemical reaction between the various architecture unit with different features in the Park and the magical element of “glass”, thus bursting out refreshing charm. The Park proudly owns the splendid Shanghai Museum of Glass, artist studio, allowing the public to merge into the rich artistic atmosphere. It also has the Kids Museum of Glass characterized with “cool play cool dazzling cool fun”, allowing both adults and children to discover the infinite fun brought by glass, and to enjoy the relaxed family leisure time. There is also elegant KILN club, the Italian-style Murano restaurant, cozy and delightful museum café shop, factory store and fine gift shop that have world-known brands, to contribute flavor and glamour to beautiful life. To integrate art into life, to make happier life, this is the concept that the whole Park expects to pas to the urban residents.

At the Thank-You Ceremony of G+Park’s 4th Anniversary on May 17, 2015, Zhang Lin, the president shared with all guests the extraordinary achievements made in the past four years. They took the chance appreciating the splendid sights of different spaces of the new wings of Phase II during the four-hour colorful experience, presenting the brand new image of “new park new hope, glassy heart happy heart”. Rainbow Chapel, Banquet Hall, N1 Art Office Tower, these three new wings born inside the park integrate old industrial factory and creative design, by perfect combination of “new” and “old”, it presents an architecture space with unique feature. No matter it’s to organize a personalized romantic wedding ceremony, to participate in a high-level artistic culture activity or to strive for personal career, we expect that these three brand new dreams can bring strong sense of happiness to the city residents, enabling the museum lifestyle to fully extend. Here it will give birth to a brand new dream about glass, expecting everyone with dream in heart will share wonderful life with G+ Park. This is both a mission and a common vision for G+ Park people.

The three new constructions inside the park that were unveiled on May 17, 2015 were only tiny dreams of the G+Park. In today’s post-industrial era, people will no longer only desire for material satisfaction, but to continuously pursue spiritual happiness, with incessant pursuance to happy life. By taking the chance of continuous construction of G+ Park, embracing full humanitarian care, we expect that in the future, urban residents will come here to appreciate art, celebrate newly born, commemorate love, strive for career and even enjoy retirement life, extending museum life style and enjoying full-fledged sense of happiness in life.

Dreaming Rainbow Chapel of brand new concept

The dreaming Rainbow Chapel of brand new concept will serve as dream-like ceremonial chapel. Collaboratively designed by Coordination Asia and Logon Architecture, it is the core landscape and venue inside of the museum park. The exterior wall of the construction is composed of two levels, the outside is a semi-open square framing structure, and a dazzling glass cylinder structure located inside. The exterior wall is made of numerous layers of colorful glasses. Such design has created a joyful atmosphere for weddings to be held here in the first place. In the meantime, the round shape implies infinite sweetness in the future life of a couple who are going to wed. This is the first wedding center attached to a museum in the country. It combines wedding ceremony and art aesthetics, tailored design and fashionable lifestyle, to plan an important ceremony for a life as glorious as glass. It will definitely become a favorite venue for young people to pursue fashionable wedding ceremony.

Multifunctional Banquet Hall with extreme modernity

This is a dreaming palace for wedding ceremony, renovated from a 50-year-old factory, of a total size 1200 square meters, located on the west side of the museum park. The Museum designated architecture design company, German Logon Architecture and the museum designated interior design company, Coordination Asia, jointly completes the architecture design and interior design. Banquet Hall is divided into two levels, renovated from the old glass-manufacturing workshop. In order to focus on the key concept of “glass”, the exterior wall facing the Rainbow Chapel garden is made of high reflective exposed framing glass. Inside the space of dreaming crystal feature, the city residents can hold personalized wedding ceremony and help the museum lifestyle to have a romantic extension.

This banquet hall is equipped with top-notch audio system, light system with stage effect, and comprehensive facilities to guarantee running of activities, and professional planning and catering services. To meet different public relations activities, we can organize high-level release conference, brand promotion event and GALA dinner.

N1 Art Office Tower

The Art Office Tower is part of the G+Park, facing Ai Lu Rainbow Chapel and garden, besides the KILN Club, and chiming in distance with Shanghai Museum of Glass. It is endowed with valuable cultural and art resources owned by the Museum and mature facilities provided from the neighborhood. The whole space highlights the artistic atmosphere, stressing the harmony between urban space and office space, human being’s emotion and recognition towards construction, making public art as the final touch of the building.

Kids got to know the basic knowledge about these two ordinary materialby conducting several interesting experiments. Whether using PH test paper or observing the release of acid gases and deposit of alkali, kids could understand and observe these wonderful phenomenon. The highlights of the event were ‘Coke Meets Mentos’ and ‘Elephant Toothpaste’ which aroused the excitement of kids. Vigorous reaction phenomenon was not only to get the kids to scream; even their parents were truly surprised. The series activity of ‘BOBOLILI LAB’ not only let profound knowledge walk out of chemistry laboratory, as well as becoming a period of rare parent-child interaction time.

‘Medic of Glass’ is one of the series activities of  ‘Now/Then’ exhibition. We invited the professionals form Fudan University to do the glass restoration together. Let’s retrace Mayor Marilyn’s journey through the Shanghai Museum of Glass – one that was by turns wondrous, intimate and unexpectedly delightful!

For most Westerners, words like eye beads, glass walls and glass ear pendants are unfamiliar yet intriguing terms. In the museum’s main exhibition area, Mr.Tesone was fascinated by the history of glass in China as well as the contemporary art pieces.

Meanwhile, Mr. Tesone also visited the newly opened KIDS Museum of Glass, and was fascinated by the wonderful and cool concept of the KIDS museum. Glaze Gallery, hot glass performance area, the rainbow chapel and new office building were also enriched the museum tour.

Mr. Tesone highly praised the achievements by the Shanghai Museum of Glass since it opened more than three years ago. In the recent future, our museum will have much deeper collaboration with museums, galleries, and artists in the United States in order to display more glass art and share the infinite possibilities of glass.

The Opening of The Kid Museum of Glass

Jan 18, 2015

On the afternoon of 18th Jan., 2015, a fascinating and spectacular opening ceremony was held in the KIDS Museum of Glass. The families with children at different ages from different countries were invited to witness the memorable moment of the debut of the Museum.

Nearly 100 children of different nationalities from international schools, arts institutions, primary schools and other different places were the little guests for the activities during the opening ceremony. They “brought” their parents to witness and experience a brand-new glass adventure full of childlike funs. On that occasion, the sponsor, Shanghai Museum of Glass, and the designer, Coordination Asia, have jointly prepared the wonderful afternoon with games, performances, snacks and glass adventure for the visitors.

The children from professional arts institutions and international schools officially began the opening prelude for the Children Glass Museum with a merry drumming and vocal performance. And closely following, Zhang Lin, the Museum President, and Tilman, the chief designer of the Museum respectively extended the welcome messages. The visit in the Museum was rich and orderly: the interesting kid shows hidden everywhere enlightened the children’s interests in play and creation, the little surprises from time to time were waiting for the children’s exploration and acquisition. The children were divided into Red Team, Yellow Team, Blue Team and Green Team which respectively represented the flame, the starry sky, the beach and the moon (all were related to the scenes in the Children Glass Museum), turned into little warriors or curious babies to explore and discover a gorgeous and fantastic glass world with the adventure guide of Glass Game Manual. During the whole visit, there were amicable and professional leaders who explained to the visitors and wonderful interactive performances at different “sceneries”: the beautiful Cinderella in the “Starry Sky” Zone, the charming mermaids in the “Beach” Zone, the funny and cute clowns in the “Circus” Zone as well as face painters and magicians, who might appear at any time to amuse the children.

Of course, apart from the visit of the Children Glass Museum, the sponsor also carefully prepared DIY courses with different contents and a novel and interesting demonstration of the hot glass technology for the children. The children, under the instruction of the professional teachers, entered the laboratory and came to know glass in a way of artistic feeling. How marvelous and beautiful glass is with everyone’s deftness and inspiration! Meanwhile, the leisure zone and various tasty and fresh snacks were for the parents in the feast area at the main ground for the opening ceremony: funny DIY ice cream, DIY chocolate, etc. The parents and the children could enjoy the exquisite snacks prepared for them at any time.

When the tour, and the visit of DIY and hot glass performances were over, the children who still longed for more carried small wish lanterns, walked toward the square with the leaders when the night fell, and together took an innovative photo full of commemorative significance. Finally, the children, with the lucky bags and gifts, went back home with the farewell of museum mascots, Bobo&Lili.
