宋冬
Song Dong

1966 年出生于北京,现居住、工作在北京; 1989 毕业于首都师范大学美术系油画专业。

宋冬从九十年代初开始从事行为、录像、装置、摄影、观念绘画和戏剧等多媒介
的当代艺术创作,并参与策划当代艺术的展览和活动。他从中国先锋艺术运动中
脱颖而出,成为中国当代艺术发展中重要的艺术家。宋冬的大多数作品都关注艺
术的过程而非最终成品,因此也创造了其独特的媒介和装置方式。他的作品用东
方智慧探讨生活与艺术的关系,具有国际影响力。宋冬于 2001 年与艺术家尹秀
珍一起创造了合作方式筷道2005 年与艺术家洪浩、肖昱、刘建华和冷林
一起共同创建了集体创作方式的艺术小组“政纯办”。

宋冬曾获 2000 年联合国教科文组织颁发的青年艺术家奖金(UNESCO/ASCHBERG
Bursary Laureate),2006 年获得“韩国光州国际当代艺术双年展大奖,2010
年度 AAC 艺术中国年度艺术家装置新媒体大奖,2011 年获美国旧金山市荣誉证
书,2012 年首届基辅双年展奖,2012 年度中国当代艺术权力榜年度艺术家,2014
年中国当代艺术奖(CCAA)杰出贡献奖。受聘于中央美术学院、北京电影学院、
广州美术学院任客座教授。

Born in 1966 in Beijing, China. Song was introduced to painting and calligraphy at a young age, which ultimately led him to study painting. He was acutely aware of the 85 New Wave movement during this time, which proposed a radical turn toward expressive and experimental innovations. In addition, the work of Robert Rauschenberg had a profound impact on his practice and contributed to his abandonment of painting in favor of video and performance. One of Song’s earliest performance pieces, Another Lesson: Do You Want to Play with Me? (1994), questioned the roles of educational institutions, transforming the Central Academy of Fine Arts Gallery into a classroom in which exam papers covered the walls and floor, middle-school students were instructed to read blank textbooks, and participants were invited to write on surrounding blackboards. The performance was shut down within half an hour of its opening by the police, who accused the artist of inciting the public and creating a fire hazard.

His projects are often composed with quotidian objects and ephemera, proposing a destabilization of material hierarchies in relationship to personal and global themes.
