ABOUT EXHIBITION

When a distant, minute past is projected onto the flat vastness of the present; when a flying drone becomes an equally unreliable extension of human perception… Groundless Flower tells the tale of an insignificant individual seeking to affirm, even rewrite, their very existence within the deepening time and unsettling space.
The story unfolds in the no-man’s land at the junction of Gansu and Qinghai provinces in China. Artist Frank WANG Yefeng is lost. The landscape, so rationally deemed static before, now transforms into a boundless, shifting expanse. Walking through it, or even witnessing such a gesture of walking, can induce vertigo.
To geologists who observe the world through the lens of deep time and with enough patience, everything eventually flows—even hard rocks and entire continents. But for Frank WANG Yefeng who is equipped with nothing but his body and his artist’s technique, it is the dizziness of disorientation that shatters all boundaries between things and their meanings. At this moment, a personal mythos begins to unfold.

Glass plays an essential role in this exhibition. The Florapsaras series and the Faulora series merges glass flameworking and 3D printing techniques, creating hybrid, quasi-evolving lifeforms suspended between freedom and rationality. The Fragment of Sand series marks the inaugural application of pâte de verre in the Annealing program. Delicate glass granules fuse under high temperatures, then set into textures that linger between precision and accidents. The resulting sculptures evoke painterly visual depth, oscillating between hardness and softness, stillness and transformation.
The flowers in Groundless Flower are a recurring motif—neither truly rooted nor entirely detached. They embody a liminal existence in perpetual reassessments and equilibrium, showcasing a contemporary narrative of adrift, change, and reconstruction.
