Launched by the Corning Museum of Glass and submitted by artists, designers and architects, New Glass Review is a magazine aims to record the innovation and diversity of glass, a challenging material. Around the theme of New Glass, the Corning Museum of Glass has organized two important exhibitions, “Glass 1959- New Glass Review” and “New Glass: A Worldwide Survey”(1979), which laid a foundation of International Studio Glass Movement and stimulated glass artists, collectors and critics’ concern on glass and contemporary art, which promoted art innovation constantly.

This exhibition, “New Glass Now” aims to present the breadth and depth of contemporary glass making, and displays the works of 100 artists from 32 countries and regions, including objects, installations, videos and performances. It is the third exhibition since the launch of “New Glass” series in 1959. The exhibition employs a democratic curatorial methodology. It is organized by an international panel. Headed by Susie J. Silbert, curator of Modern and Contemporary Glass at The Corning Museum of Glass, the panel also includes guest curators Aric Chen, curator-at-large, M+ museum, Hong Kong; Susanne Jøker Johnsen, artist and head of exhibitions at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, Schools of Architecture, Design and Conservation, Denmark; and American artist Beth Lipman.

As the friend and cooperator of the Corning Museum of Glass, Mr. Zhang Lin, director of the Shanghai Museum of Glass, was invited to the exhibition opening, and communicated with the CMOG team, including museum director Karol Wright, director of operations Alan Eusden, curator Susie Silber and head of workshop Amy Schwartz. As a keen supporter of International Studio Glass Movement, the Shanghai Museum of Glass will keep integrating into global glass art platform, supporting international glass art and promoting the glass art communication between China and world.

Shanghai Museum of Glass is invited to present in the NYU Shanghai CBER Annual Forum 2019

On April 27th, 2019, NYU Shanghai organized a forum under the theme of “Cultural and Creative Business in the New Consumption Era”, which brought a feast of ideas on the fields including art, culture, creativity and business.

The forum was organized by Center for Business Education and Research (CBER), New York University Shanghai. Six guest speakers, as pioneering figures in the field of culture, creativity and entertainment, shared their little-known professional career experience and expectation on the future of cultural and creative business, as well as the consumer behavior change.

Mr. Zhang Lin, director of Shanghai Museum of Glass, was invited to speak on the forum. In his speech, Mr. Zhang Lin raised the concept “Creativity” and contextualized it as “the weapon of museum against time”. In the development of the museum, it is the “creativity” that redefined museum and transferred it into a space for visitors’ interaction, attracting visitors and citizens constantly. Accordingly, Shanghai Museum of Glass has organized a series of interdisciplinary activities to increase community participation, to lead a museum lifestyle and to provide mental pleasure as well as creative service.
