5TH Anniversary of Shanghai Museum of Glass and Grand Opening of Design New Wing
May 15, 2016
Adhering to the concept of “sharing the infinite possibilities of glass”, Shanghai Museum of Glass (SHMOG) is moving forward steadily in year 2016, making progress and gradually developing itself into an interactive, experience-focused, international as well as community-based museum. After 5 years’devotion and experience, Design New Wing is unveiled by SHMOG on May 15. The existing venue of Shanghai Museum of Glass focus in black tone and implicit immersive art atmosphere, while the new Design Wing is more open and sunnier, a creative but natural art stage. The two venues are like “night” and “day,” associated but alternative, closely linked by a glittering Golden Fire Bridge, bringing audiences excellent visual enjoyment and visiting experience.
As another permanent display venue for the Shanghai Museum of Glass, the Design Wing collects classic and pioneer works from numerous renowned designers home and abroad, in its nearly 2000-square-meter concise and fluent space, with a consistent aesthetic factors and display principles, as well as infinite passion towards glass. The nearly 40 different works from designers with different cultural backgrounds and education experiences, show out the characteristics of breadth and infinite possibilities of glass as material, but also reveal that contemporary glass design transcends the material itself, crossover with other materials and paying attention to current social issues and natural environment.
Besides wonderful design pieces, we prepared Kids Design Glass exhibition and special performance from Arribas artsits. Miguel Arribas made a fantasy glass castle for museum and the castle will be the permanent exhibit of SHMOG.
As the core of G+park, fully playing its three key functions of exhibition, collection and education, SHMOG makes effort to implement the social responsibility and offer public services, providing multi-facet and high-quality artistic experiences and aesthetic enjoyment to more city residents.
