Shanghai Museum of Glass Jumped Out At Strawberry Music Festival

April 28, 2019

Between April 26 and 28, Shanghai Museum of Glass popped in Strawberry Music Festival Shanghai Station. Designed by Jamie Hayon, museum collection Nuclear Pomegranate vase was exhibited in the festival, alongside with glass design products of “Let’s Talk Glass” studio.

In the three-day festival, the unique design of Nuclear Pomegranate vase from the “Crystal Candy” series attracted the notice of visitors and music enthusiasts, many of them stepped on the stage and took selfies with the glass art. The juxtaposition between tender white ceramic and bright ruby crystal glass formed sharp contrast, performing strong visual impact. Meanwhile, the avant-garde character of Nuclear Pomegranate that transcending the boundary between art and design is identical with the combination of “Museum” and “Musical Festival”. Constrained and locked in a fixed space, day after day, nothing would be decorated on art but dust. Pomegranate, signifying prosperity and aspiration, symbolizes the wish of Shanghai Museum of Glass that to find other ways to touch, sense and satisfy the need of young generation.

Through the bold cooperation of “Museum + Music Festival”, Shanghai Museum of Glass accomplished another self-breakthrough, to get rid of constrain of traditional exhibiting space as well as the inert exhibition form, and to find new target and audience of museum. In the future, Shanghai Museum of Glass will continue injecting aesthetic power to everyday mundane life, making museum a sort of lifestyle.

Shanghai Museum of Glass x Tecent Music Entertainment, A Cross-border Art Exhibition

Shanghai Museum of Glass x Tecent Music Entertainment

A cross-border art exhibition

March 24, 2019

On March 24, the cross-border art exhibition Flowing made its debut at the Rainbow Chapel, Shanghai Museum of Glass Park. Exhibiting for three weeks, it was the first time that Shanghai Museum of Glass collaborated with Tecent Music Entertainment.

At the opening of exhibition, the famous figures from business, music and art, including ZHANG Lin, Director of Shanghai Museum of Glass, LI Kai, Copyright Commercial Director of Tecent Music Entertainment Group, Christopher Lang, General Manager of Greater China of DTS, PAN Yan, Secretary General of China Association of Performing Arts, and YUAN Ding, Chairman of RECO, gathered in the Rainbow Chapel and witnessed the collaborative fruit of glass art, traditional music and new technology.

“Fusion” is the theme of the exhibition. Through the interview with the musicians, artist WANG Qin derived inspiration from the six selected compositions of six different musicians, and transformed the abstract music spirit into solid glass sculptures. The sculptures are named after the compositions: Dawn Light by Yi ethnic singer Guba Ahsan, The Spoiled Child by Mongolian Band Rid, The Mountain People by Hui ethnic singer MAN Xinwei, At the Foot of Mount Fanjing by Miao ethnic singer LONG Pu and TIAN Yingchang, War Horse by Mongolian Band ZUL and Ezen Sang by Mongolian Band Suutan.

It is the people that are the core of music art. No matter as musicians, audiences or artists, the encounter and mingling of those from multiple areas and multiple communities would rejuvenate the minor ethnicity culture. This exhibition is not only a groundbreaking interpretation of traditional folk music, an innovation in inheriting heritage, but also an application on the idea of “sharing the infinite possibilities of glass”, which brings further culture dimension to glass art. In the future, Shanghai Museum of Glass will keep on diversified cooperation to empower glass art with impressive inspiration.

OPENING OF OUTDOOR ARTPLAZA AND EIGHTH ANNIVERSARY OF SHMOG

2019年6月27日 / no comments

OPENING OF ARTPLAZA AND

EIGHTH ANNIVERSARY OF SHMOG

June 22, 2019

Jumping outside the box, Working for aesthetic new life

On 22nd June, 2019, Shanghai Museum of Glass ushered in its eighth anniversary. We prepared a series of celebrating activities and invited guests from arts, design, and cultural sectors at home and abroad and also the public, to share this moment and witness the grand opening of our outdoor plaza.

Since last anniversary’s breaking through in “BRKN”, interpreted glass inherent properties of vulnerability and fragile. This exhibition has greatly expanded the original definition and structure of glass, and also linked to one self’s vulnerability as a human. Such brand-new work continued to explore infinite possibilities of glass and gave visitors a more personal and profound experience and reflection.

Yet, in this year, Shanghai Museum of Glass tries to break through in “sharing community” which is one of our visions. Under the principle of “Creating and Sharing Museum Aesthetic New Life”, we hope to integrate glass into everyone’s life. People usually have a typical image towards museum: inflexible and showing art pieces inside an enclosed space. Therefore, we have jumped outside the space limitation and created an outdoor plaza, in order to overturn such perception. By blending the art and design exhibitions in the museum and entertainment programs in the other areas, art can be shown even outside the museum. We can have a much closer relationship with the public, letting them to experience art from 0 to 1 and interact with artists there.

On the day of celebration, there were varies of cultural performances to revitalize the park. Elegant and tailor-made performance by modern dance performers, wonderful melody performed by foreign band, balloon modelling for kids by crown, etc., everyone was having fun here. And all guests spent a jolly and unforgettable evening together, chatting and enjoying amazing band, crystal glass and radiance glass performances, indulging in the delightful and relaxing atmosphere. Just like our headline for eighth anniversary -“Dare to be wild”, aimed at letting visitors to get in touch with the nature and interact with strangers and leave an impressive memory after visiting our museum.

Through this breakthrough, we hope to spread a message that art can be part of our life and museum is not as formal as the majority thinks. We are not just showing art visually, but also integrating art into everyday life, giving out more realistic joy and feeling to our visitors. We will stay gold at a time we are having new attempts, continue in building up atmosphere of aesthetic new life, and of course, achieving our ultimate goal of becoming an influential museum worldwide.

GLASSY NEW YEAR
SHANGHAI MUSEUM OF GLASSY’S GLASSY NEW YEAR

GLASSY NEW YEAR

SHANGHAI MUSEUM OF GLASSY’S GLASSY NEW YEAR

February 5, 2019

As in previous years, Shanghai Museum of Glass celebrated the Chinese New Year holiday with visitors together in 2019.

The museum director Mr. Zhang Lin sent the best wishes and an art gift pack to visitors in the renovated museum lobby in the morning of Feb. 5th, the first day of Chinese New Year. The art gift pack included a glass piggy decoration and the latest GLASSY magazine edited by the museum. Mr. Zhao Feng, director of the China Silk Museum, Hangzhou, and Ms. Zheng Yi, associate professor of department of cultural heritage and museology, Fudan University visited the Shanghai Museum of Glass on Feb. 5th as well.

In the afternoon of 5th and 7th February, museum director Mr. Zhang Lin delivered a special guided tour in the main hall and the “BRKN” exhibition respectively, introducing the history and trend of glass, the birth of the BRKN exhibition, as well as the hidden story behind the exhibits.

Additionally, two sets of installations made their debut in Shanghai Museum of Glass in this Chinese New Year holiday.

“Warm Currents”, an installation created by Chinese artist Lin Tianmiao, came back to the Shanghai Museum of Glass with an astonishing larger scale, after a two-month construction and testing. The installation problematizes aesthetics present in the fields of science and medicine, and it is the result of 2017 Annealing Program of Shanghai Museum of Glass.

“Everywhere, Nowhere”, an installation created by Chinese artist Du Meng, intertwines the elements of narrow aisle, black cages, heavy sands, peepholes and calm pigeon cooing together. When visitors stand in this mysterious and spiritual space, they may integrated into every detail of the work and sense its multi-faceted glamour.
