ABOUT EXHIBITION
Forming a Future in Glass
1 material
4 perspectives
35 international designers
Endless visions on the future.
Since our inception, we have dedicated our work at the Shanghai Museum of Glass to prove that the possibilities of glass are endless, and to this point we continue to search for new perspectives to explore and share the infinite qualities of this material. Keep it Glassy is one of our numerous endeavours in line with this approach.
Keep it Glassy is a concept developed and co-curated by COORDINATION ASIA and it focuses on glass design, as seen through the creations of acclaimed international designers. The first edition of the exhibition was open in 2013 and it has showcased the fun and excitement of working with glass, in an engaging play of dark, light, solid and liquid.
Following the success of its first edition, the second instalment of the design exhibition Keep it Glassy shows the way in which design studios like Nendo, MVRDV, Dominic Wilcox, Kacper Hamilton or Studio Formafantasma embody their ideas for a better future, using glass. Keep it Glassy 2 presents concepts or projects, not only objects in glass. The intriguing stories and smart strategies that hide beyond the surface of the design pieces show that designers make use of the specific traits of glass to shape their ideas for a greater future.
The four different angles that can be taken when imagining the future through glass: Adornment, Sustainability, Innovation and Preservation are showcased in four interconnected halls of the exhibition space. As a whole, Keep it Glassy 2 introduces more than 30 glass designs that envision a desirable future, with the aim to inspire the visitors in imagining solutions for the future through glass.

CURATOR'S STATEMENT

On April 18, 2015, the Shanghai Museum of Glass kicks off its year program with the second edition of design exhibition Keep it Glassy. Keep it Glassy, a concept developed and co-curated by COORDINATION ASIA, focuses on glass design. It brings international talent to Shanghai and explores the many ways in which glass inspires designers. The second edition of Keep it Glassy will zoom in on how designers look at the future through glass, and how they express their hopes and dreams for a better future, using this versatile material.
In curating Keep it Glassy 2, the conscious choice was made to focus on displaying concepts or projects, instead of mere objects in glass. The intriguing stories and smart strategies that hide beyond the surface of glass design show that designers make use of the specific traits of glass to shape their ideas for a better future. In the exhibition, four rooms highlight four different themes that can be extracted from all the stories that Keep it Glassy 2 represents.
Keep it Glassy 2 again accomplishes to bring a rich and inspiring selection of design to Shanghai. In total, the exhibition shows some 30 views on how we can build a better future through glass. The exhibition does not take a stand point on which solutions are best or most promising. On the contrary: it aims to show the vast pallet of ways glass can be applied to move forward in time. This fits seamlessly to the vision of the Shanghai Museum of Glass that, now in her fourth year of operation, still manages to find fresh and new perspectives to explore and share the infinite possibilities of glass. By continuing Keep it Glassy, the museum looks into its own future, by further growing its design collection and strengthening its positioning as Shanghai’s one and only design destination.
